Active Health Programme
Plymouth Active Leisure Active Health Programme aims to motivate individuals who are currently inactive to participate in physical activities to enhance their health and wellbeing. It particularly focuses on those dealing with long-term health issues, mental health difficulties, and feelings of loneliness and isolation, among other concerns. Â
The Active Health Programme operates on a referral-only basis, collaborating closely with local GP practices and social prescribers to effectively target the appropriate audience. Recently, we have partnered with Devon Mind and Livewell Southwest Mental Health Community Service, both of which will now be submitting referrals to the programme.Â
Swim England Water Wellbeing Accreditation
Plymouth Active Leisure has been awarded the Swim England Water Wellbeing Accreditation at Plymouth Life Centre.
The Water Wellbeing accreditation offers a range of resources, training and support to help staff better understand the customer experience, as well as personalise the aquatic offer to suit the needs of those with long-term health conditions.Â
Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi, who is a Royal College of General Practitioners lifestyle and physical activity clinical champion, said: “Making our swimming pools accessible is vital to help support our nation moving.”
“Venues need to be inclusive and welcoming.” Â
We are pleased to announce that we are nearing the attainment of this status and have made significant enhancements to our site throughout the process. Â

Good Boost
Move More, Have Fun, Feel Better!Â
Good Boost is an app-based therapeutic water exercise programme. It’s been designed specifically for people with limited mobility and musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. These include, among others arthritis and back pain, which cause pain to millions all over the country.Â
Good Boost technology aims to improve people’s lives by helping them to get moving with gentle exercise in a fun and social environment. Sessions are delivered on tablets and are individually tailored for participants. Built by clinical experts, the technology supports people to reduce pain and improve mobility on land or in the pool. They are suitable for a wide range of health conditions including joint, bone and muscle conditions such as arthritis.Â
Goodboost is available as a component of various health programs provided by Plymouth Active Leisure. In Spring 2025, we plan to introduce a pay-as-you-go option for utilising Goodboost.Â
GP Referral
Plymouth Active plans to introduce a GP referral service at the Life Centre later this year.Â
The Exercise Referral program is designed to offer individuals with pre-existing medical conditions, as well as those at risk of developing such conditions, the chance to engage in physical activity within a supportive and secure setting. This initiative also seeks to enhance understanding of the advantages of regular exercise, ultimately fostering sustainable lifestyle changes. Â
