We are delighted to announce that Alex, our Active Health Coordinator, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the UK Active Physical Activity Hero Award, recognising his outstanding contribution to improving health and wellbeing across Plymouth through physical activity.
The national award celebrates individuals who have made an exceptional impact by helping more people become active and supporting communities to lead healthier lives. Alex’s place as a finalist is a testament to his passion, dedication and the positive difference he makes every day.
Alex began his journey with Plymouth Active as a Fitness Motivator, where his enthusiasm, compassion and commitment to supporting others quickly stood out. Through hard work and a genuine desire to help people improve their health, he progressed into his current role as Active Health Coordinator, where he now plays a key role in delivering our Active Health programme, weight management initiatives and diabetes projects.
One of Alex’s most significant achievements has been designing and delivering our Tier 3 Weight Management programme. Built from the ground up, the programme provides tailored support for people with more complex health needs, combining evidence-based practice with an inclusive and supportive approach. His previous experience working within a hospital setting has also brought valuable clinical knowledge and a patient-centred approach to the programme, ensuring participants receive the highest standard of support.
Alex is passionate about helping those who face the greatest barriers to becoming active. Whether supporting someone living with a long-term health condition, low confidence or challenging personal circumstances, he takes the time to understand each individual’s needs and helps them build the confidence to make lasting lifestyle changes.
His work extends beyond programme delivery. Alex has also contributed to strengthening exercise referral pathways across Plymouth, helping to create better links between healthcare and community physical activity, ensuring more people can access the support they need.
Participants consistently speak about the positive impact Alex has had on their lives, from improving confidence and physical health to helping them rediscover a sense of independence and wellbeing. His calm, approachable manner and unwavering encouragement have inspired many people to achieve things they never thought possible.
Alongside his day-to-day role, Alex continues to invest in his own professional development and is currently working towards his Level 4 qualifications, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to providing the very best support for the communities we serve.
Being named a finalist in the UK Active Physical Activity Hero Award is a fantastic achievement and a well-deserved recognition of Alex’s dedication, professionalism and the life-changing impact of his work.
Everyone at Plymouth Active is incredibly proud of Alex and this national recognition. We wish him the very best of luck at the UK Active Awards and congratulate him on this outstanding achievement.
Congratulations Alex, and thank you for everything you do to help our communities become healthier, happier and more active!
