Working with HFE to support community health and wellbeing
Since 2024, we’ve proudly partnered with leading training provider Health and Fitness Education (HFE) to develop and enhance the services we provide to our community.
As part of this ongoing partnership, eight members of our team have enrolled on a range of specialist training courses across gym instruction, aquatic fitness, and exercise referral. By continuing to invest in our people, we’re ensuring that everyone who walks through our door’s benefits from confident, knowledgeable, and highly skilled staff.
This development directly supports the delivery of our health-focused programme including the Active Health Programme, Good Boost Aqua and more. Each programme is tailored to meet unique needs, with a shared goal of improving the health and wellbeing of our clients.
We’re especially excited that members of our team are completing the Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification. This will allow us to launch a brand-new Exercise Referral service to support individuals living with long-term health conditions. Working closely with local GPs and specialist partners and self-referral process the service will offer structured, clinically informed exercise programmes tailored to each individual—helping more people feel empowered to take control of their health.
William Hickey, Active Health Manager at Plymouth Active said: “This is an exciting time for Plymouth Active as we continue to strengthen our health and wellbeing offer for the community”.
“The flexibility of HFE’s training programmes has been a huge benefit for us, allowing our staff to complete coursework at work or at home, and progress at a pace that suits their professional and personal commitments. This approach supports both staff development and service continuity across our sites.”
This investment reflects our commitment to continuously upskilling our workforce and delivering inclusive, high-quality services for people of all ages and abilities.
Through our continued partnership with HFE, we remain committed to promoting wellbeing, championing inclusive fitness, and supporting our community at every stage of their health and fitness journey.
Rick Gardiner, Head of Operations at HFE, added: “We’re delighted to have an ongoing partnership with Plymouth Active. It’s fantastic to see that our courses directly improve the services delivered to local communities and enhance the health and wellbeing of the people they serve.”
