To take responsibility for an events-focused kitchen, supporting the delivery of high-quality food for diverse, formal and informal occasions including hot and cold buffets, sit – down dinner events, private functions and receptions. The Chef de Partie will work closely with the Food & Beverage manager and General Manager to ensure flexible / smooth service, efficient prep, strong food safety standards, consistent quality presentation, working well in a team and kitchen operations. Supporting prep and shifts available for day to day operations of the Café.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Service

  • Prepare, cook and present food for:
    • Buffets and canapé receptions
    • Plated meals for private and corporate events
    • Cold displays and grab-and-go items where required
  • With Food & Beverage Manager assist in kitchen operations during service supervising all sections ensuring quality delivery of food
  • Support menu execution inline with developed specifications to ensure consistency and quality standards
  • Assist with a flexible service delivery during live events and functions
  • Ensure food safety procedures are being met throughout
  • Ensure all allergen information is up to date and accurate

Kitchen Operations

  • Produce and carry out daily prep lists efficiently to meet event schedules
  • Be able to brief kitchen and front of house on food and service
  • Assist with ordering and stock control / rotation
  • Minimise food waste through effective planning and use of ingredients
  • Support kitchen setup and breakdown for events

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness at all times
  • Follow all HACCP, allergen and food safety procedures
  • Ensure correct labelling, storage and temperature controls
  • Support cleaning schedules and deep cleans between events
  • Ensure allergen information is accurate on all food and drink items
  • Safer food better business

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with chefs, kitchen assistants and front-of-house teams
  • Communicate clearly during service to ensure smooth event delivery
  • Support junior team members and new starters where required
  • Weekly events meetings

Health & Safety

  • Follow all health and safety policies and safe systems of work
  • Use kitchen equipment safely and report faults immediately
  • Support risk assessments relevant to events catering and service

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Have previous experience working in a similar role, ideally qualified to NVQ level 1 / 2 or equivalent of.
  • Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate
  • Experience in events, banqueting or high-volume catering preferred
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and allergen control
  • Ability to work under pressure during peak event times
  • Flexible approach to working hours (evenings/weekends)

Desirable

  • Experience with buffets, canapés and plated event service
  • Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate
  • Basic understanding of food costing and stock control
  • First Aid or Health & Safety awareness
  • Personal Licence

Location: Plymouth Active Tinside Lido

Hours: Variable – includes evenings and weekends depending on events

Salary: £26,257 to £28,172 dependant on experience
