Job Description
We are seeking a highly creative, commercially minded, and digitally skilled Multi-media Manager to lead the promotion of our leisure facilities, activities, events, memberships, and community programmes. This is a hands-on, lead role for a marketing professional who excels in content creation, storytelling, social media strategy, and digital communications. You will be responsible for developing and delivering marketing
strategies that strengthen the Plymouth Active brand, increase customer engagement, and support business growth across all venues and services. You will be a brand champion – someone who can translate our values and mission into compelling campaigns, high-quality video content, and vibrant social media that drives memberships, participation, and customer loyalty. You will support developing an in house marketing team.
Key Accountabilities
Strategy & Planning
- Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual marketing and communications plan, co created with the Head of Business & Commercial Development.
- Create and deliver integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns to drive membership sales, bookings, programme participation, and customer retention.
- Monitor campaign performance against KPIs and provide regular reporting on key metrics, ROI, and audience insight.
- Identify and act on opportunities to increase revenue through targeted promotional and digital activity.
- Manage the marketing budget effectively, ensuring expenditure delivers measurable return on investment.
Digital & Social Media
- Own and manage all social media channels, driving audience growth, engagement, and community interaction.
- Monitor platform performance and adapt content strategies based on analytics and audience insights.
- Manage website content ensuring information is accurate, engaging, and optimised for search engines (SEO).
- Plan and manage paid social and digital advertising campaigns where appropriate with our external marketing agency partner
- Work with the marketing agency to maximise digital reach and effectiveness.
Events & Community Engagement
- Support the promotion and delivery of events, new programme launches, and community engagement initiatives.
- Attend key events to capture content and maximise promotional opportunities in realtime.
- Work collaboratively with operational teams to identify and showcase customer success stories and community impact.
Essential:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field (or significant demonstrable experience)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a marketing, communications, or digital marketing role
- Proven track record managing social media accounts and campaigns
- Experience creating and executing content calendars
- Demonstrable experience analysing marketing data and producing performance reports
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites
- Strong videography and video editing skills (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, CapCut or equivalent)
- Excellent photography and visual storytelling ability
- Strong understanding of social media trends, algorithms, and best practice across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills

Desirable:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience within the leisure, fitness, sport, hospitality, or community/charity sectors
- Knowledge of membership-based businesses and customer lifecycle marketing
- Experience managing paid social media advertising (Meta Ads, Google Ads)
- Experience using CRM and email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, HubSpot)
- 2 years’ supervisory or team management experience
- Professional marketing qualification (e.g. CIM)
- Graphic design experience using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva Pro
- Understanding of SEO principles and website CMS management (e.g. WordPress
- Experience with analytics tools (Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, Sprout Social)
- Understanding of GDPR and data privacy as it applies to marketing communications.
